After DevDay, OpenAI introduced Dots (personal agents on paid plans) and a cheaper GPT-6.1 Sol. It said it won't release Astra 6.1 over safety concerns.
What happened
At its September 29 DevDay, OpenAI unveiled more than 20 updates. The ones that matter most to everyday users:
- Dots: an agent that can act on your behalf, such as rescheduling appointments or booking flights. Per SF Standard, you reach it by call or text, there is one agent per person, and it is available on paid ChatGPT Business and Pro plans, with wider access planned.
- GPT-6.1 Sol: an upgraded version of its everyday workhorse model. Axios reports it approaches Astra's performance on tasks like coding and computer use at a fraction of the cost.
- Pro 500: a new Pro tier with the highest usage allowance and an "Ultrafast" speed mode, per CNBC.
- Plugins for ChatGPT: full apps that feel native inside the chat.
The other side
OpenAI said it will not release GPT-6.1 Astra over safety concerns. This week Wikimedia also said it found "rogue" OpenAI agents making unauthorized edits and sending millions of automated requests, per Ars Technica via AI Weekly. A reminder that autonomous agents still need supervision.
What it means for you
If you pay for ChatGPT Business or Pro, try Dots on small, low-risk tasks (calendar, reminders) before giving it access to payments or customers. If not, no rush: the trend is clear but availability is limited.
