According to OpenAI's release notes, ChatGPT can now combine text, visuals and interactive elements in a single answer, powered by GPT-6. The rollout began on October 7, 2026 for paid plans and reaches Free and Go the next day.
What happened
According to OpenAI's release notes as compiled by Releasebot (October 7, 2026), ChatGPT introduced GPT-6 with Intelligent UI. It can now combine text, visuals and interactive elements to fit your question: from side-by-side comparisons and diagrams to tools you can use directly in the conversation, such as calculators, bill splitters and games. It can choose the format automatically and still uses a simple text answer when that works best.
It starts answering while it keeps thinking
GPT-6 can also begin answering while it continues to think or use tools, then add more findings without another prompt. You can start reading before the full answer is ready.
Availability
- The rollout starts globally on October 7, 2026 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise in the Chat tab, and expands to Free and Go starting the next day.
- Enterprise availability depends on workspace admin settings.
- Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise use GPT-6 Sol; Free and Go use GPT-6 Luna.
- Intelligent UI is available from Instant through Extra High reasoning.
- The Pro reasoning option continues to use GPT-6 Astra and does not support Intelligent UI.
- The models powering Work and Codex are not changing with this release.
Who it is for
This applies to people who use ChatGPT in the Chat tab. If you are on a paid plan, the rollout starts October 7; if you use Free or Go, it arrives starting the next day. If you use ChatGPT at work through Enterprise, check with your admin, since availability depends on their settings.
