The Wall Street Journal reported that Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart, whose Lucy model edits live video. The deal is not yet closed.
Amazon is in talks to acquire Decart, an artificial intelligence startup, in a deal valued at around $7 billion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, October 11, citing people familiar with the matter.
What does Decart do?
According to its own website, the Lucy model, backed by Nvidia, can edit video in real time. The company also built Oasis, a model that generates simulated environments to train and test robotics and autonomous-driving systems.
Its core product, according to Tech Funding News, is DOS (Decart Optimization Stack), software that lets developers run AI workloads on Nvidia GPUs, Google TPUs or Amazon's Trainium chips without rebuilding for each one.
The numbers
- The Journal, citing PitchBook data, said Decart was valued at nearly $4 billion in May.
- In May it raised $300 million in a round led by Radical Ventures, with Nvidia joining as a new investor.
- It has raised more than $400 million from investors including Sequoia Capital, Benchmark and Radical Ventures.
- According to Calcalist, Amazon is already a strategic customer and gave it early access to its Trainium chips.
What about Anthropic?
Calcalist reports the deal follows the collapse of a proposed acquisition by Anthropic, which withdrew after due diligence.
What does it mean for creators?
For now, nothing changes in your tools. This is a deal under negotiation: the Journal warns it could come together soon, but talks could also fall apart or another suitor could emerge. Amazon declined to comment and Decart did not respond to press requests.
