Google opened its flagship model to paying users: AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app, and developers through the API. The launch price doubles on December 1.
On October 13, Google released Gemini 4 Argon, its most powerful model. It had been announced on September 30, but at first only approved cybersecurity defenders could use it. Now access has widened.
Who can use it?
- Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search. In September, only the Ultra tier had access.
- Developers on the paid Gemini API, in Google AI Studio.
- Companies, with eligible Gemini Enterprise subscriptions.
- Antigravity, Google's tool for coding with agents, for Ultra subscribers.
- Free accounts and the free API tier are not included yet.
How much does it cost?
For API users, the launch price is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with a 95% discount on cached input. That price lasts through November 30, 2026. From December 1 it rises to $4 and $20.
What it means for you
If you only use the Gemini app, the key point is that it now shows up in the model picker if you have AI Pro or Ultra. Google positions it for long, multi-step work: software engineering, finance, legal work, cybersecurity and science. According to Google, teams using it in Antigravity increased agentic code submissions by more than 35% and cut code rollbacks by nearly a third. Reuters adds that the launch comes after months of delays and a leadership shakeup at DeepMind.
If you run a business and plan to connect Argon to your own tool, it makes sense to test it before the introductory price ends.
