The changes to AI Mode and AI Overviews, announced October 15, aim to help users find the right information with more prominent source links. They roll out throughout October.
On October 15, Google announced changes to how AI Mode and AI Overviews, the AI answers in its search engine, help users find the right information. These features already include links back to their sources, although, according to Android Central's report, those links have never been perfect.
What changes in AI Mode and AI Overviews
- Source links higher up: according to the announcement, Google will move the links inside the answer "higher up in responses more frequently."
- More visual links: in AI Mode, when you dig deeper into a topic, it will show "more engaging and prominent" links, with thumbnail images and a design that encourages clicks.
- News in a carousel: timely news articles will appear in a prominent carousel, for quicker review.
The changes will roll out throughout October, so you may not see them on your account yet.
How to make use of it
An AI answer is a good starting point, but if you're going to make a decision (quote a price, buy, publish a figure on your page), open the original source and confirm the number. With the links more in view, you'll have a clearer place to start checking.
If you need to summarize a long document you already have on hand, Resumidor de documentos helps you pull out the key points in minutes.
