Talks are at an early stage and could end in an acquisition, more investment, or a deal to hire its team and license its technology.
Nvidia, the chipmaker behind much of today's AI, is in talks to deepen its investment in the startup Reflection AI or acquire it, the Financial Times reported on October 10, as relayed by Reuters.
What is known
- The talks are at an early stage and could fall apart, according to the report.
- The deal could take several forms. One is an acqui-hire: Nvidia would hire the staff and license the technology instead of buying the whole company, which could avoid a lengthy regulatory review, the newspaper said.
- An agreement could come "in the coming weeks," according to sources cited by the Financial Times.
- Nvidia is already a major backer of Reflection: according to the Financial Times, it has invested $800 million.
- Reflection AI was founded in 2024 by two former DeepMind researchers, Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, and develops tools that automate software development.
- Its chief executive told CNBC in April that the company was raising capital at a pre-money valuation of $25 billion.
For now there is no closed deal and no change for people who use these tools: it is business news to follow closely.
