The startup will join Rosalind, OpenAI's life sciences unit, to coordinate work between research and approval of a drug.
OpenAI keeps buying companies to move into specific sectors, this time the pharmaceutical world.
OpenAI revealed it has acquired Orchestra Bio, a drug development software startup. Orchestra builds AI agents that help pharmaceutical teams keep development programs on track, and its staff and technology will now sit inside OpenAI's Rosalind life sciences unit.
Why? By the company's count, getting a new medicine through to U.S. regulatory approval takes 10 to 15 years on average, and programs pass between departments and outside partners whose systems often do not connect. OpenAI already works with Novo Nordisk and Moderna on AI-driven pharma research.
About the startup. Orchestra Bio was founded in San Francisco in 2022 by Ashoka Rajendra.
For your day to day: it's not a tool you'll use tomorrow, but it shows where agents are heading: taking over the boring, repetitive follow-up (dates, pending items, coordination between teams) so people can decide. It's the same idea you can apply in your business with your appointments, quotes and follow-ups.
