Craft generates images up to 2K from the Dream Lab tab and can be turned into an editable design with Magic Layers.
On October 22, Canva introduced Canva Craft, the first image generation model it has built entirely with its own research team.
What it offers
- It lives in Canva. All Canva users can try it from the Dream Lab tab, and developers can also reach it through Canva's public API.
- Images up to 2K, with more than 30 preset aspect ratios or a custom one.
- It plans before it paints. Craft works in two stages: it first interprets the prompt and creates a plan covering the spatial relationships of elements, their relative scale, the visual hierarchy and the information for text; it then generates the image from that plan.
- It's editable. Images can be turned into layered designs with Magic Layers, Canva's tool that transforms an image into a design with editable elements.
How good is it? According to Canva, it debuted in fourth place on DesignArena, a public leaderboard of AI image models. That is a result Canva itself highlights, and positions on leaderboards like this can shift as new models arrive.
What does it cost? Canva has not published a per-image price for Craft or how many uses of its AI allowance each generation consumes, so it is best to test it on your own formats (posts, covers, ads) before relying on it.
