Terra handles forms, proposals and video editing on a computer, and its API costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens.
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra, its mid-sized model. According to the company, it combines detailed visual reasoning, precise computer use and clearer, more natural writing. It is aimed at the tasks that fill the workday: drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, filling out forms or editing videos.
What changes for you
- Cheaper. API pricing is $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens, 50% lower than the model it replaces, GPT-5.6 Terra.
- Faster. OpenAI says it completes tasks more than three times faster than GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
- Fewer mistakes. In its internal test, the error rate at low reasoning effort dropped from 53.6% to 16.7%.
- Performs like a bigger model. OpenAI claims it matches GPT-6 Astra at one-tenth of its price per token.
Where can you use it? It is available today to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and through the API as gpt-6.1-terra.
Keep in mind: these are OpenAI's own test numbers. For the most complex coding jobs, the company itself still recommends GPT-6.1 Sol or GPT-6 Astra.
If you serve customers, send quotes or do repetitive paperwork, a model that handles screens and forms for less money is worth trying on one real task from your week.
