Terra fills out forms, edits video and interprets technical drawings. It's available in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and its API costs half of the previous version.
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra, a mid-sized model that, according to the company, combines detailed visual reasoning and precise computer use with clearer, more natural writing. OpenAI describes it as a significant step up from GPT-5.6 Terra and presents it as a fast, efficient option for the communication and computer-based tasks of the workday: drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, filling out forms and editing video.
What changes for you
- Fewer mistakes. In an internal test with error-inducing prompts, OpenAI says the error rate at low reasoning effort fell from 53.6% to 16.7%. At maximum effort, it fell by 18 percentage points to 4.3%, nearly matching the rates for GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol. These are the company's own figures.
- Lower price. OpenAI highlights that GPT-6.1 Terra's pricing is 50% lower than GPT-5.6 Terra, the model it replaces.
Availability and price
Terra is available today in ChatGPT Work, Codex and the API. For Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users, access is through ChatGPT Work and Codex. For developers, the API costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens, 50% less than GPT-5.6 Terra. The comparisons come from OpenAI's own evaluations and have not been independently verified.
