The French company published the model so businesses and governments can download it and run it on their own systems; it is aimed mainly at coding and cybersecurity.
Mistral AI, the French AI company, released the "weights" of Mistral Large 4 (ML4). Weights are, roughly, the model's already-trained brain: whoever downloads them can run the model on their own, without relying on an outside provider. TechCrunch reports the release lets businesses and governments download and deploy it themselves.
What is known
- It is a 1-trillion-parameter model that, according to The Next Web, reads text and images and produces text and code.
- It was published on Hugging Face after a three-week preview, with extra training that raised its Terminal-Bench 4.0 score from 28% to 41%, per The Next Web.
- Mistral says it performs comparably to GLM-5.3, a Chinese open model, but uses 47% fewer tokens per task.
- It is also available through Mistral's API. Smaller versions will follow "in the coming months," including one that runs on a laptop, with no confirmed dates.
Is it for you?
You probably won't run it directly: TechRepublic notes a model this size demands significant GPU infrastructure. For most people its effect will arrive indirectly, through tools and providers that choose to use it.
