Gemini now creates and edits PDFs, documents and slides inside the chat

Google added in-chat file management to Gemini: you can create, preview and edit PDFs, Docs, Sheets and Slides without leaving the conversation. Which plans get full use of it is not entirely clear.
If you use Gemini to put together quotes, menus, proposals or summaries, this update saves you steps. According to Android Police, Google announced that files can now be created, previewed and edited inside the same conversation with Gemini, without leaving the chat.
How it works
- You can generate PDFs from your notes and reports right inside the chat.
- You can expand the document and make adjustments; for example, highlighting text and asking Gemini to create graphs, as shown in Google's video demo.
- Inside the editor there is a button to undo edits and another to export or share the document.
- You can create and edit PDFs, Docs, Sheets and Slides, and also edit and download Markdown files, code files and TXT notes.
- Android Police's author tried the feature and says it quickly turns a report or an image into an editable PDF, and that he tweaked the document with follow-up prompts without leaving the chat. His only complaint is that many of these files take time to load.
Who can use it
Google says PDF editing and creation are available on web and mobile wherever Gemini is supported, in all languages. For other formats (Docs, Sheets, TXT), these tools are currently limited to the web version; Google has not shared a timeline for bringing them to the mobile apps.
Android Police adds that these are Workspace-tied capabilities, meaning only subscribers on Google One AI plans can take full advantage of them. Those on a paid Gemini plan can also trigger multistep workflows with "Task" to run automated routines when editing, generating or sharing these files. The sources reviewed do not make clear how much of this is available without a subscription, so it is worth checking in your own account.
Good to know
- On phones, the editing available for now is for PDFs; the other formats are edited in the web version.
- Android Police notes that ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot have supported editing and exporting formats such as Word, Excel and PDF inside their chats for months.
For your business: ask Gemini for a draft proposal or price list, fix what you don't like right there, and export or share it from the editor.
